  • Allergy Committee

    The fundamental objective of the Allergy Committee is to support and assist in the implementation of the Hopewell Avenue Public School’s anaphylaxis policy. Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that can be life-threatening, and there are approximately two dozen Hopewell students known to be at risk. School policy and procedures reflect the requirements of both the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board’s publication Protocol for Creating Safe and Healthy Schools for Anaphylactic Students (Revised July 2005), and Ontario’s Bill 3 (Sabrina’s Law, 2005). The Allergy Committee is available to aid in whatever capacity necessary, and specifically works to:

    • Disseminate information related to allergies and anaphylaxis to parents, students, and others;
    • Assist in training related to anaphylaxis symptom recognition and treatment;
    • Help formulate strategies to reduce the risk of anaphylactic reactions.

    The allergy is chaired by Karen Goodrich and Alison FInes and comprised of members of the school administration and staff, representatives of the School Council, as well as parents of students. membership is open to any and all members of the school community wishing to support the school's efforts to provide a safe and healthy enivironment for anaphylactic students.

    On behalf of children with food allergies at Hopewell (and their parents), the Hopewell Allergy Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all students and parents for their continued support and assistance throughout the year in keeping foods containing nuts and peanuts out of Hopewell. By not sending peanut/nut products to school you have made a huge contribution to the safety of food allergic children.

    If you are interested in more information regarding food allergies or are interested in working with the allergy committee in any capacity, please feel free to email parentspeak@gmail.com
